Celebrity Cruises

Most everyone knows what fun a cruise can be - get away for a while, smell the sea air, stuff yourself with free gourmet food.... but did you know you can take your next holiday cruise with a celebrity?

All the traditional perks of a cruse are present, and all the normal routes are covered: The Mediterranean, Europe, Alaska, and the Mexican Riviera, among others, with the Caribbean probably standing out as the most popular spot. In fact, the only real difference between your average cruise & celebrity cruises is just that - the presence of a celebrity.

With that in mind, it is worth asking yourself if a celebrity cruise is worth the cash. When you’re pondering that, you should ask yourself if the cruise itself is something you want to do. After all, celebrity cruises are usually offered by the biggest cruise lines (they can afford it!), so you can feel pretty safe in the knowledge that you won’t be tossing your money into the ocean for nothing.

In case you’re unfamiliar with how celebrity cruises actually work, here’s a quick primer:

Early notice will be given to the cruise ships carrying whatever musician, movie star, or sports icon who will be making an appearance. At this point, the information will be released to the general public so they can start booking tickets. Speaking of which, do you really think you’re the only one who likes George Clooney? Not a chance! If you want to be a part of a celebrity cruise, you need to book your room(s) ASAP!

Celebrity cruises are undertaken by the celebrities themselves for a variety of reasons (beyond getting a free cruise, of course!), including:

  • Possible monetary compensation - nothing says “PR Boost” like having Sir Paul McCartney on your ship’s manifest.
  • Promotion of their upcoming movie, album, etc. If this is the case, don’t get discouraged with thinking that you’ll never see your favorite celebrity! In fact, if their presence aboard ship is promotional in nature, chances are better than normal that you’ll score an autograph, or an advance showing of a new release, or some other perk.

So, those are a few reasons why a celebrity might be on your cruise in the first place... now here are some things to watch out for:

  • Length of stay: Celebrities are busy, busy, busy, and widely admired. Make sure when you book your celebrity cruises that you read the fine print - if Johnny Depp is only going to be on board for a day and a half, and there are 30,000 other Johnny-loving passengers on your cruise, chances are you won’t be hanging out with him by the pool.... and isn’t that the whole point?
  • One last thing: This will cost more than a normal cruise, so if you aren’t sure if meeting a B-List celebrity is worth the price-hike, you may just want to spend the extra dough on a better stateroom.

Hopefully, you’ve learned something from this little bundle of tips. It’s time to book your tickets... so get going, and don’t forget your autograph book!
